Authors Megan and Jill Carle are teenage sisters with nothing much in common when it comes to food—except that they both know how to cook really well. One buys ingredients she likes and figures out what to make when she gets home; the other follows every recipe to the letter. One is a vegetarian who’s drawn to ethnic food; the other prefers all-American comfort food. Together, they’re a dynamic duo who have created and mastered more than 75 recipes for breakfasts, snacks, sides, family meals, dinners for one, and desserts. In TEENS COOK, the Carle sisters also share their kitchen know-how on averting and fixing disasters, dealing with cookbook math (fractions and metrics—ugh!), deciphering culinary vocabulary (all those terms we kind of know, but not really), explaining chemistry (why and how stuff goes right and wrong in the kitchen), and avoiding accidents (can you say "grease fire"? oops!). For teens (and tweens) who are tired of eating what their parents decide to fix, TEENS COOK offers foolproof advice for whipping up some tasty home-cooked meals of their own. | | | |

TeensCook Apr 07, 2010 We bought this book for our HS library and I loved it. Bought one from Amazon for my then 13-year-old son and I like it as much as he does.I taught both my son's to cook, that's one way my oldest snagged his wife! I love this book. I have the Chicken and Dumplings on page 98 memorized. This is so easy for the kids to use and it's written by teenage sisters so they use terminology young people can relate to. I guess I'll have to give it up when my youngest (now 17) moves out!

Don't Buy This Book!!! Mar 14, 2010 The recipes in this book are time-consuming and taste mediocre at best, although they look nice. Just today I made the eggplant parmesan, and though I cooked it for 15 minutes instead of the ten called for in the recipe, it still came out undercooked and no one ate it. It took me an hour to make. Another time I made the banana cream pie, which ended up looking and tasting like banana pudding made from a box. And those are only two of all the recipes I made. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
Not just for teens! Mar 04, 2010 I am a 28 year old wife and mother of one. I hate to cook but love to eat. When I was young, my mother would kick me out of her kitchen saying she could do it faster. Naturally, that means I never learned to cook. My poor family eats lots of mac-n-cheese, great northern beans, tacos, sandwishes, and fast food. Since I and my husband work during the day, we are both very tired when we get home, and are not real interested in fixing a great meal. Tired of letting my family down, I decided to look for cookbooks that teach quick and easy cooking. There aren't very many out there that seem to have "normal" foods in them with practical ingredients. Most of them ask for ingredients I haven't heard of. Then I got this book. It is great. The recipes are easy, the ingredients are easy to find in small town grocery stores, and the food is things that most people would like to eat. I highly recommend this book to those young adults who never learned how to cook, but want or need to. This is the best one I've found so far. It is truly for a beginner and the food is good. Love it. I'm going to go cook something out of it now.
'Teens Cook' How Sweet It Is Feb 01, 2010 I purchased this cookbook for teens for my 13 yr. old grandson.
He has loved to cook since he was just a little guy and we are both quite pleased with this book. It is coloful with great pictures and a wonderful variety of receipes. Great investment.
I thought "inspire" + "teenager" = oxymoron Jan 30, 2010 I thought "inspire" + "teenager" = oxymoron until I gave this book to a almost 14 year old boy! Now he cooks, and does it well! Great book for its target audience.
